Lady Gaga contó que su tía y su abuela se enteraron que es una víctima de abuso sexual, luego de su interpretación de Til it happens to you en la entrega de los Oscar. El drama había sido contado por ella en 2014.

La canción forma parte de la banda de sonido del documental The Hunting Ground, que aborda la problemática de abuso en las universidades, y en la gala del domingo realizó un show del que participaron otros sobrevivientes de acoso.

Ahora, con una foto en Instagram, la cantante contó lo que sucedió en su familia. "Mi abuela (en medio) y mi tía Sheri (a la derecha), ambas, me llamaron al día siguiente de los Oscar porque nunca les dije que era una superviviente. Me daba vergüenza. Estaba demasiado asustada. Y me costó un tiempo admitirlo incluso a mí misma porque soy católica y sabía que era malo, pensé que era mi culpa", contó.

"A la mañana siguiente de los Oscar cuando hablé con mi abuela Ronnie, con lágrimas en sus ojos, y la pude escuchar diciéndome 'mi querida nieta, nunca he estado más orgullosa de vos como lo estoy hoy'. Algo que he mantenido en secreto durante tanto tiempo porque estaba más avergonzada que otra cosa - se convirtió en lo que las mujeres de mi vida estaban más orgullosas. Y no unas mujeres cualquiera, sino a las que más admiro", expresó.
